Privacy Policy

Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the Goto Mark browser extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, published by Wheelercode LLC (“Wheelercode,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

Summary

Goto Mark has no user accounts, backend service, analytics, advertising, telemetry, or crash-reporting service. It makes no network requests. All extension data is processed and stored locally through your browser’s extension-storage system.

Wheelercode does not receive, collect, sell, rent, share, or transfer the information stored by the extension.

Information handled by the extension

Goto Mark handles the following information locally when needed to provide its page-bookmarking features:

• A SHA-256 hash derived from the normalized address of a page on which you create a mark, used to associate saved positions with the correct page. The address itself is not written to extension storage.
• Mark information, including vertical and proportional position, scrolling context, optional labels you enter, colors, visibility preferences, line dimensions, creation time, and a locally generated identifier.
• Global appearance and behavior settings, including color, thickness, width, alignment, glow, line visibility, label visibility, and color-cycle position.
• A list of website origins where you have chosen to turn Goto Mark off.

On each eligible page, Goto Mark normalizes the current address in memory and hashes it locally to look for previously saved marks. The address is never written to extension storage, and a page-specific record is retained only after you create a mark on that page. Common advertising and analytics parameters are removed before hashing. Meaningful query parameters and application routes may be included in the hashed identity when they distinguish one page, document, conversation, or record from another.

Information not collected by Wheelercode

Goto Mark does not transmit or provide Wheelercode with:

• Page text, images, or other page content
• Your general browsing history
• Form contents or information typed into webpages
• Cookies, passwords, or browser authentication storage
• Names, email addresses, payment information, or location
• Analytics, usage measurements, advertising identifiers, or diagnostics

An optional label that you type into Goto Mark is stored locally as part of that mark. You should not put passwords, payment details, medical information, or other sensitive information in a mark label.

How information is used

Locally stored information is used only to create, display, edit, navigate to, restore, and delete the page-position bookmarks and settings you request. It is not used for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, unrelated product development, or any other purpose.

Storage, transmission, and sharing

Storage

Data is stored in chrome.storage.local, within the browser profile on the device where you use the extension. Goto Mark does not use browser-account synchronization.

Transmission

Goto Mark makes no network requests and does not transmit extension data to Wheelercode, third parties, or other devices.

Sharing and sale

Wheelercode does not receive, sell, share, rent, or transfer Goto Mark data. No third party processes extension data on our behalf.

Permissions

• Storage: saves your marks, preferences, and disabled-site list in local browser storage.
• Scripting: reattaches the extension’s bundled content script to the active tab when you open the popup and that script is not already present, such as after installation or an extension update.
• Website access: allows Goto Mark to place and restore marks on ordinary HTTP and HTTPS webpages. Local-file access remains off unless you separately enable it in the browser’s extension settings.

These permissions are used only for Goto Mark’s visible page-position bookmarking and navigation features.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use disclosure

Goto Mark’s use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Data retention and deletion

Information remains in local browser storage until you remove it:

• Remove one mark through that mark’s editor.
• Clear all marks on the current page through the extension popup.
• Remove all Goto Mark data by uninstalling the extension through your browser.

Turning Goto Mark off for a website stops its page behavior but retains that site’s marks so they can return if you re-enable the extension.

Security

Goto Mark minimizes exposure by keeping its code and data on your device, requesting no account credentials, loading no remote code, and transmitting no data. Access to locally stored extension data is governed by your browser, operating system, and device security.

Children’s privacy

Goto Mark is a general-purpose browser utility. Wheelercode does not knowingly collect personal information from children or any other users through the extension.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when Goto Mark’s functionality or legal obligations change. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when changes are published. Material changes to data practices will also be disclosed through the extension or its store listing when required.
